Thanks for sticking in there. We’ve found a bassist. His name is Shane. We’ve been writing and rehearsing for some spring shows. It was -14 this morning. Woof. Spring never seems to come quickly enough.

We’re mastering our debut record on Monday. I’ve got it sequenced. Just a few transitional things needed be done, but it’s mostly done here. Bruce at Magneto mastering will be handling the rest of the dirty work. I would like to release the new record by the fall. But don’t hold me to that.

I’m really sorry it’s taken so long. We’ve already written the second album. I’ll try not to get ahead of myself here.

So pumped for this show. So much fun with the extensions. I’m dying my hair tonight and getting tattoo’d Saturday morning.

If you haven’t heard we’re playing the High Noon Saloon as the Foo Fighters. Come kill it with us.

1. People rarely understand that “Apparently Nothing” is indeed our name, and we are not, in fact, saying that we “apparently do not have a name.”
2. Made even more impossible is giving someone the name over the phone. We’ve ended up on flyers before simple as “Nothing.”
3. I’m sick of the inherent disrespect of someone mistaking our name and calling us “Absolutely Nothing”. Once in a blue moon would be fine, but once a show?
4. Definitely Something, Apparently Something and all other puns that would normally be considered a compliment if it wasn’t for the fact that we’ve heard them 1,000 times.
5. The name just isn’t marketable. If I want to make a living off my music some day I’m going to need the following: A great band (I’ve got that, clearly) and a name that isn’t something that is mentioned in passing and forgotten. See 1 and 2.
6. We’ve had some line-up changes. See below.
7. We want to start fresh with the new record we recorded with Art Alexakis of Everclear.

So without further adieu… I present to you our new name: The Usual Things. As of today our MySpace has a new URL. Our websites and profiles will now all redirect to The Usual Things as well. If you’re on Facebook, you’ll notice that our groups and pages have also been renamed.

Oh! And check out our Twitter profiles. You’ll see we’ve got it hooked up so that any time we do anything it shows up in that top bit of our website. Even our Netflix activity. Holla!

More Changes

Charlie has left the band to pursue a solo career in Nashville, TN. Let’s everyone wish him good luck with all his plans. Jim has returned on keys and lead guitar, pulling double duty and depending on the song forgoing guitar altogether.

Ryan has also chosen to pursue other endeavors. He’s joining the real world and is working as a web developer at Sierra Bravo in Minneapolis. We haven’t figured out a bassist quite yet but we’ve got a few in mind. If you’d like to rock with us a while, just let me know.

Long story short: Charlie and Ryan are out and Jim’s in and so is a new bassist.

The New Album

The record is still in the process of being mixed. These things take time and money and we’re doing the best we can to get this thing in your hands. It’s a great record and there are some incredible moments on it that we can’t wait to show you. We want dearly to be a real band with this release. We’d like you to be able to buy it in stores, and we’d like you to be able to see us opening for legitimate acts. We’d like to have distribution and all that fun stuff, so you’ll have to bear with us and let us get our ducks in a row.

Just wanted to pop in quick and remind everyone that we’re playing Friday night (the 13th! Eeeeek!) at the UW Memorial Union’s Rathskellar. It’ll be Awesome Car Funmaker’s last show, which is odd because our first show with them was at the Rathskellar.

Anyway, I hope to see you all out there. We’re going to be giving our merch away for pretty cheap to make room for some new exciting things in the near future.
